Three award recipients were announced at the 2011 Oregon Ethics in Business Awards Banquet on Wednesday, June 15 at the Governor Hotel in downtown Portland. Selected from eleven finalists in the Business, Not-for-Profit, and Individual award categories were: Dave’s Killer Bread, DePaul Industries, and Donna M. Beegle, Ed.D. Dave Frohnmayer, former Attorney General of the State of Oregon and President Emeritus of the University of Oregon, gave the keynote address for the evening before 400 business and community leaders in attendance.
The Oregon Ethics in Business Awards, completing its eighth year, honors those businesses, organizations, and individuals who have demonstrated ethical business practice in its broadest interpretation: in the workplace, the marketplace, the environment, and the community. The recipients of these awards will have, by act and example, gone beyond the expected to achieve excellence in ethical business practices. Nominations for the awards come from across the state of Oregon. Graduate students from the Atkinson School of Management at Willamette University conduct the research of each business and organization nominated and put forth a recommended group of finalists to the Selection Committee.
“The finalists are an impressive group of businesses and organizations,” said Richard Wingard, Chairman of Oregon Ethics in Business. “It is our goal that leaders of businesses and organizations throughout the state of Oregon will take notice of these recipients and finalists being recognized, and will ask themselves how they, too, can model ethical behavior in all that they do.”
Proceeds of the event go to support Enterprise Academy, an annual workshop hosted by Rotary Club of Portland that allows high school students to learn and understand the free enterprise system, to examine business issues objectively, and to develop ethical business practices.
